Turkish Cabaret Style to Australian Belly Dance music

I’m doing a solo at this show coming up at the end of August. Click on the image below to go to the Facebook event page:

It is a Turkish themed night, so I am delving into Turkish Cabaret style. Here are my inspirations so far:

Didem – of course! Judging by the comments below it is not everyone’s cup of tea, but seriously!!! What’s not to like? This is a long clip, but worthwhile as it shows a variety of styles.

Asena – so soft and feminine in the following clip, which is quite different to a recent clip I saw of her dancing (which I don’t think is available on youtube). Her dancing seems to have taken on a more stylized and harder edge, unless the most recent clip I saw was just a certain style in a broader repertoire.

And Tanyeli! So expressive and proud. I recognised the second tune she dances to as one in my own collection… and an Australian band.

So, given I had the music already, I thought I would use it to create my own ode to Turkish Cabaret Style Belly Dance. Here is a link to the music: “Dance of the Seven Veils” by Ash Dargan

Check back to see how I go, or come to the show!
