Contemporary Belly Dance

The first solo I ever did was at the Kismet Bazaar when it was held in Hawthorn… It was about 1996 or so and it was to a great DJ Shadow song. I’ve always loved belly dance represented in more traditional forms and in experimental forms.

My next experiment is for the Contemporary Belly Dance Choreography Short Course. It is to Amon Tobin’s Saboteur.

I have been doing a bit of playing around this morning.

My inspirations?

Honestly this guy is nothing short of incredible.

And I love Rachel Brice’s ability to continue to evolve, grow and challenge the boundaries of the dance form without losing its essence.

My style is much softer than both of these dancers though and I still like this improvisation I did to Bonobo in 2007.

But maybe I need to revive some of that drama and passion of my younger self? 2005 dancing to Bond.

If you like the look of these musings please help me create this new experiment by joining me for the short course. Enrol now.
